Marinated Grilled Pork Chops

Normally, I kind of like to mix up my own marinades.  (One of my favorites is soy sauce, garlic powder, honey and olive oil.) But, I’m on a clean-out-the-pantry mission in preparation for our move this summer.

As I was digging around, trying to decide how to marinate the pork chops, I came upon a bottle of this stuff:

Mine didn't have all the pretty things next to it.

I was feeling pretty lazy, so I grabbed a gallon-size ziploc bag and dumped half the bottle in it.  Then I added the frozen pork chops.  I squoze (totally a word) all the air out of the bag and put it on the counter to defrost.  (Shhhh… don’t tell the FDA.  They’ll come get me.)  When I came home for lunch, I put it in the fridge.

For dinner, I grilled the pork chops and paired them with some green beans and brown rice.  This marinade was delicious – tangy and a little bit sweet.  I think I can recreate it pretty successfully, but I’ll definitely be using the rest of the bottle!

Sounds great! Is it safe to let pork defrost in a marinade though? Wouldn’t that contaminate the marinade and therefore make it unsafe? I hadn’t thought about leaving things to marinade overnight though, would definatley give it a bit more flavour!

It’s multitasking – it defrosts and marinates at the same time! When I’m ready to cook the pork, I throw out the rest of the marinade. If I want to brush some on while it’s cooking, I make sure to have some on hand that hasn’t had the pork in it. I just reserve some from the beginning.
